I’ve run creative writing workshops (specialising in poetry) for community and arts organisations such as Roomers (St Kilda/Melbourne), Katherine Susannah Prichard Writers Centre (Perth), WriteAbility at Writers Victoria, Brunswick Community Neighbourhood House, and Australian Poetry , as well as at literary festivals such as the Brisbane Writers Festival and the Perth Poetry Festival. I provide exercises and experiences to prompt writing, with topics ranging from unique self-portraits, writing and the body, contemporary poetry and more…
In 2021, I’ll be facilitating an online monthly poetry clinic for Writers Victoria. For more information, and to book, see here.
In recent years, I’ve also worked as a casual tutor at universities, including La Trobe, Deakin, and RMIT, teaching poetry, creative writing and essay writing.
Mentoring & Manuscript Assessment
I’ve also been mentoring emerging poets. I offer detailed and tailored feedback on individual poems and on manuscripts. Depending on what you’re after, I’m also able to develop a tailored program of reading recommendations, writing exercises and suggestions of where to submit poems. Rates are modest, and can be hourly or based on a set project.
Sharing poetry is so intimate, especially first clumsy attempts… Thank you for being such a sensitive and skilled mentor and poet. Your intuitive, gentle encouragement have seen me and my poetry bloom…

Andy’s generosity established connection and trust. Feedback spanned the grammatical to the conceptual including many elements and distinctions of poetry which were new to me. Being privy to his feedback to others greatly enhanced my understanding…
– Anon., Workshop Participant
I’ve attended Andy’s writing and poetry workshops for the past two years and have been informally mentored on fund writing and manuscript preparation. I admire Andy’s work greatly and have gained a distinct maturity in my own writing which I attribute to his supportive and innovative approach to the art of writing.
